Motorcars Honda - First Carbon Neutral Car Dealership in the World
Along with awards from LG, Honda and a proclamation from the State of Ohio
Cleveland Heights, Ohio: On Wednesday, July 13th, 2016 at University Circle, BP announced that Motorcars Honda has officially been certified as first ever Carbon Neutral Award recipient in the world, reaffirming its commitment and drive as pioneer in the race toward more environmentally friendly businesses. This highly prestigious award has never been presented to a car dealership before now.
Jonathan Lee from BP presented the first ever Carbon Neutral Award to Chuck Gile, Motorcars owner at University Circle saying, “Saving energy is simply the right thing to do. Everybody has to do their share to help the environment.” The Motorcars solar panel project that was installed over a two year period supplies 70% of the dealership’s power and with continuous strides to reduce power usage, this percentage may actually climb in the future.
Trevor Gile, General Operations Manager at Motorcars Honda, presented President, Chris Ronayne of University Circle Inc with a $20,000 donation to their organization.
Luigi Tedesco Regional Vice president for Castrol Lubricants in the Americas said, “We at Castrol are committed to leveraging our platform for “Target Neutral” to reduce, replace, and neutralize carbon emissions. On behalf of everyone at Castrol we congratulate Chuck, Trevor, and the entire team.” He went on to say, “Motorcars Honda is a blend of art and engineering and a portrait of innovation, creativity, and technology. Solar panels, high-efficient A/C and heating systems, LED lighting, recycled material; all of these demonstrate that you can bring a sustainable idea to life.” Luigi Tedesco continued by stating, “I don’t believe that an achievement like this happened randomly. Chuck, Trevor, and the team have demonstrated that it’s possible to create solid and successful enterprises but also a sustainable one.”
Accolades for Motorcars Honda continued as both Honda and LG presented awards. Honda representative Robert Langford presented the “Honda Platinum Environmental Leadership Award” given to dealers who quantifiably reduce their environmental impact. Honda’s goal was to achieve a 10% reduction in carbon emissions per dealership. Motorcars Honda took this initiative 10 steps further to completely cancel out their carbon footprint by 100%. The top-level Platinum award is reserved for dealers whose facilities earn LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The required 10 percent energy reduction is in line with the U.S. EPA’s Energy Star Award / National Automobile Dealers Association program.
Peter Eno and Bill Hook of LG also presented an award to Trevor and Chuck Gile for their Leadership Commitment to the Environment. Their use of LG VRF technology to greatly reduce electricity usage at their dealership. Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) is a technology introduced as a system to minimize efficiency losses. An air source LG VRF system is engineered to minimize or use no ductwork as a saving, save on the cost of large distribution fans, multiple water pumps operation and water piping. Energy efficient and easy to design, install, and maintain, a VRF system has the lowest life cycle cost of any system on the market today.
